Dear Students, Staff and Parents.

Welcome to the 2019-20 school academic year!

I am filled with a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment on seeing our vision of growing and serving manifest itself into reality.

I believe that schools can neither operate in isolation nor detach themselves from the effects of new onslaught. An exemplary school therefore needs to have a system that flexes itself to absorb the changes. At the same time it should also adopt measures to ensure that a healthy environment is created where the individual creativity and originality is allowed to blossom, where culture, tradition and values are preserved and perpetuated and where change is synthesized to nurture wholesome, complete and holistic personalities.

Seven Oaks School is 21 years old now. We are still young and energetic as compared to institutions that are over a hundred years old. We have the required infrastructure and human resources for growth and development. We are like a young tree that grows on a hilltop, taking in its stride whatever changes the winds bring with them. Each day, it puts its roots deeper and deeper into the soil and stands loftily spreading its branches and smiling at the sun.

With a daily routine which is a harmonious blend of studies, sports and co-curricular activities, each student of Seven Oaks School is subtly enriched, emotionally evolved, mentally balanced and spiritually enhanced.

Academics, no doubt has been at the nucleus of all our efforts and this has manifested itself in our achievements, as exhibited in the Board Examination results. In ISC Rishab Raturi was the top scorer, with 96% and the topper of ICSE was Ashutosh Sharma with an impressive 96.5%.

Co-curricular activities are a salient feature of our school curriculum and find a prominent place in the school calendar. These provide ample scope for development of soft skills which are essential requirements for success. This year in the month of May, the school hosted The National Robotics workshop in collaboration with IIT Guwhati. Many school of the region participated in this workshop which was a very enthralling experience for the students.

The IT Society of the School organized the Seven Oaks Annual Film Festival for Senior and Juniors wherein the students displayed their skills in script writing, casting, shooting, sound recording, editing and screening films made on themes such as Saving the Girl child, Catching the Comet, Air Craft dynamics, Ebola virus, child labour etc.

In the Inter House English debate for the Seniors’ students debated on the topic ‘Does India’s human Capital need professional training to catch up in the global market?’ the middle school debate was on an equally interesting proposition “Justice delayed is justice denied”. Similarly the Inter House Hindi debates were also keenly contested.

In the month of September, an Inter House quiz competition was organized for the seniors as well as the middle school. In the senior section Olive House emerged victorious and in the middle school Maple House was the winner.

Inter house and Inter Class soft board competitions were organized twice this year varied themes such as “A tribute to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam”, “How to create a Silicon Valley” and “India’s bid to secure a place in the UN Security Council.”

A number of career counseling workshops were held throughout the year for the students of classes X, XI and XII by professional career counselors. These provided guidance to the students to choose the most suitable career. They also provided information about a number of unconventional along with the customary conventional career options. Two extensive day long workshops for the teachers were organized in the month of July. The resource persons were from the Oxford and Scholastic publications.

To sensitize and educate the students about Human Rights, a Guest Lecture and interactive session by Dr. Harsh Dobhal, an eminent educator, journalist and writer was held in November. This was a very exciting and enriching experience for the students.

In inter-school competitions, students of Seven Oaks School won laurels and made us immensely proud. The school quiz team emerged as winners of the quiz competition organized at Cambrian Hall in which 22 schools of the region participated . In the RBI Quiz held at St. Joseph’s Academy, our school bagged the third position in Uttarakhand out of a total of 80 Schools. The members of winning team are Rohit Kanswal, Sachin Rana and Raunak Sinha Thakur.

In the Uttarakhand State Chess Championship Swarit Kumar of class V A won in the under 11 category with a remarkable score of 5 out of 5. He has secured a place to represent his home state in the National Championship which will be held next year.

In the Primary wing, a number of competitions were organized such as Drawing, hand-writing, fancy dress, elocution etc. where the tiny tots got ample opportunity to showcase their talent.

Achievement is indeed a result of well co-ordinate team- work where everyone works towards the common goal of institution by carrying out their respective responsibilities in the most effective manner. I wish to express my sincere thanks to our Chairman Dr.S. Ganguli who is a pillar of strength for all of us. My heartfelt thanks also goes to the Headmistress, Resource Counsellor, all the teaching, administrative and support staff for their invaluable contribution in everything that the school has achieved.

In conclusion, I would like to motivate my dear students with the following lines:-

“Do not follow where the path may lead instead go where there is no path and leave a trail behind for others to follow.”
God bless you all.

Sincerely
Lalit Mohan Kum
